How much of your service area does Google actually show you in?
Your trucks cover a region. Your Map Pack listing covers a few streets. This 2-minute diagnostic measures the gap between the two and gives you a Local Coverage Index you can act on.
The Geographic Gap is the difference between where your business physically works and where it appears in local search. Because Google weighs distance heavily, you can rank first at your address and be invisible in the next town over. The Local Coverage Index puts a 0 to 100 number on how wide that gap is for your business.
The Geographic Gap Diagnostic
Find out how much of your service area Google actually shows you in.
Six questions, about two minutes. No sign-up to see your result. You get your Local Coverage Index, the gap between where your trucks work and where you are visible, and a plain read on what to do about it.
This will not fix a suspended Google Business Profile, thin reviews, or a business without steady jobs. It measures documented geographic coverage, nothing more.
Why a business can be busy everywhere and visible nowhere
Every completed job is real geographic proof that your company works in that place. Most of that proof is never captured in a form Google can read, so it disappears the moment the crew drives away. Traditional local SEO answers this with more city landing pages and backlinks. Those are website signals. Google Maps ranking runs on entity and location signals: a consistent business identity, and fresh, located evidence of activity across the area.
That is the distinction this diagnostic is built around. It does not score your SEO knowledge. It measures the distance between your physical footprint and your digital one, then tells you plainly whether documenting your completed work would close it, or whether something more basic needs fixing first.
Questions people ask
What is the Geographic Gap?
- The Geographic Gap is the difference between where a service business physically completes work and where it actually shows up in local search. A company can rank first at its own address and be absent a few kilometres away, because distance is one of the strongest Google Maps ranking factors. The gap is the set of areas you serve but stay invisible in.
How is the Local Coverage Index calculated?
- It compares the number of distinct cities or suburbs you actively work in against the number where your business appears in the Map Pack top three for your main service, then scales that to a 0 to 100 figure. If you do not track Map Pack presence, the diagnostic estimates it conservatively from how consistently your completed jobs are captured as dated, located records.
Is a low score a ranking guarantee that Map Check-Ins will fix it?
- No. The Local Coverage Index is a self-reported directional read, not a live audit, and Map Check-Ins is a proof and visibility layer, not a ranking guarantee. Local search visibility depends on relevance, distance, prominence, the Google Business Profile, the website and other signals. The diagnostic will also tell some businesses they are not ready for it.
Do I need to be a client to use it?
- No. The diagnostic is free, takes about two minutes, needs no account and no card. You get your Local Coverage Index, the size of your gap and a plain recommendation whether or not you ever work with Digital Handshake Media.
