Google's own Help Center names three kinds of documents it accepts as proof during video verification: a business permit, an invoice, or a utility bill. There's one requirement that matters more than which document you pick: it has to show the same business name as your Google Business Profile. A lot of contractors operate under a trade name day to day, "Mike's Plumbing," while their utility bill, business licence, or bank statement is still in a different legal name, a numbered company or a personal name. That mismatch is invisible until Google asks for proof, and by then you're doing this audit under pressure, during a suspension, instead of ahead of one.

Any single mismatch usually isn't fatal. It becomes a problem when you're already being asked to prove your business is real, and now you're also explaining a name that doesn't match, at the same time.

This is common and fixable, not a violation on its own. The move is to either register the trade name formally where your province or state allows it, or keep a document on hand, like a "doing business as" filing, that explicitly connects the legal name to the trade name Google sees.
A utility bill in a landlord's name doesn't prove your business operates there. A business permit, an invoice you've issued, or a lease with your business name on it is a stronger substitute, since Google names business permits and invoices as accepted alternatives.

- Pull three documents now: your most recent utility bill, your business licence or permit, and one invoice you've sent recently.
- Check the business name on each against your Google Business Profile name, exactly, not just "close enough."
- If they don't match, fix the paperwork, not the profile, unless your profile name is the one that's actually wrong. Changing your Google listing name to match a name customers don't recognize creates a different problem.
- Keep a folder ready. If verification or an appeal ever asks for proof, having the right document on hand in five minutes beats scrambling for it during a suspension.
