Updates · October 27, 2026
Google is testing four Business Profile changes at once, and review appeals are backed up.
Quick answer
Four Google Business Profile changes reported October 19 to 23, 2026 are tests or a closed beta, not confirmed rollouts: ID-photo verification, advanced performance reports, higher Google Posts and Business Home. Review appeals are also delayed, and Google asks owners not to file duplicates. This week, save a dated copy of your performance numbers, check your verification status and leave any pending appeal alone.

Book a free assessmentSearch Engine Roundtable reported five Business Profile items in five days. Four are tests or a beta that most owners cannot see yet; the fifth is an appeal queue moving slowly. Here is what was reported, what Google itself documents and what local service businesses can do now.
What was reported this week
Why none of this is a rollout yet
The people who spotted three of these changes describe them as tests. Google’s help page limits Business Home to select categories in two countries. GOOGLE DOCUMENTED A test can disappear, change shape or reach a different group of businesses next week. The Search Engine Roundtable reporter could not see the new performance reports in his own account. INDEPENDENT RESEARCH
Our reading: nothing here justifies editing a profile today. The useful work is preparing for each change, which costs little and loses nothing if the test is dropped. DHM INTERPRETATION
What each change means for a local service business
ID verification. An ID upload changes what Google asks you to provide, not whether your business qualifies. If Google asks for an ID, upload it only through the verification flow in your own Google account. Do not email or message a photo of your ID to anyone, including an agency. DHM INTERPRETATION If a profile is suspended or stuck in verification, our note on a profile suspended with no reason given shows how that looks in practice.
Performance reports. If Google changes how calls, direction requests and website clicks are counted, a trend line could break. Save a dated copy of today’s numbers so you can make an honest month-on-month comparison if the report changes. DHM INTERPRETATION
Posts. If the test puts Posts higher, customers may find them more easily on the panel. That change alone would not show that Posts improve local rankings. Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence, and that there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. GOOGLE DOCUMENTED Our post on the three factors behind Google Maps ranking explains each one. Keeping Posts current takes little effort. DHM INTERPRETATION
Business Home. Google’s eligibility list says businesses must be based in the US or UK. If your business is in Canada, it is outside the beta for now. GOOGLE DOCUMENTED There is nothing to do unless Google widens access.
Review appeals. Google’s team says a duplicate appeal does not help. Note the date you filed and wait. GOOGLE DOCUMENTED For the policy side of reviews, see our note on the review policy that banned employee names.
What we see on our own site (October 27, 2026)
GA4 · sessions
218sessions in GA4
July 29 to October 26, 2026. Direct was 170, Organic Search 32, Organic Social 6, Referral 6, AI Assistant 2 and Unassigned 2. This is a small site, so the data is directional only. DHM DATA
DataForSEO · demand
720US searches a month
DataForSEO’s Google Ads volume for “google business home” in September 2026 was 720, up from 30 in August. Canada showed 140, up from 10. The tool rounds and estimates. DHM DATA
Search Console · clicks
17clicks from search
Search Console recorded these clicks from September 27 to October 24, 2026, across 11 pages. Two clicks went to our Maps pin bug and knowledge-panel notes. DHM DATA
GA4 · AI Assistant
2sessions labelled AI Assistant
Both were engaged sessions. Our October 20 reading, which ended a week earlier, showed none. Two visits cannot show a trend, and GA4 recorded no key events in this window. DHM DATA
Google’s Knowledge Graph API returned no entity for “Digital Handshake Media” and one Person entity for Omar Alocozy, with no description. We recorded the same result on October 16. A business panel can exist even when this API returns nothing, so we treat this as one data point. DHM DATA The SERP lookup in our SEO Master connector returned an account error today, so we have no SERP reading for this week. DHM DATA
Do this week
- Save a dated copy of your performance numbers. Open the performance report in your Business Profile and screenshot or export calls, direction requests, website clicks and search impressions for the last 28 days. If Google replaces the report, you can still compare. DHM INTERPRETATION
- Check your verification status. Confirm that the profile is verified and that the Google account you use has owner or manager access. Send an ID photo only through Google’s own flow, never by email or chat. DHM INTERPRETATION
- Keep Posts current, without expecting a ranking boost. Add one dated update that is true today, such as hours, a service or a seasonal job. Google’s ranking guidance does not name Posts. GOOGLE DOCUMENTED
- Do not refile a review appeal. Google asks owners not to file duplicates. Write down the date you filed. GOOGLE DOCUMENTED
- If you are in Canada, skip Business Home for now. Google lists US or UK based businesses with a verified profile and fewer than 10 locations. GOOGLE DOCUMENTED
- Ask your agency what it has actually tested. Nobody can promise a result from a change Google may remove. We do not guarantee rankings. DHM INTERPRETATION
If you are not sure whether your profile is blocked or just buried, read why a business isn’t showing on Google Maps, or take the free scan, which checks the facts every platform reads.

Search Engine Roundtable’s reports describe tests and a beta seen by individual users and one invited reporter; we did not see any of them in our own account, and forum replies are individual sightings. Our own figures are Google Analytics 4, Search Console and DataForSEO readings dated October 27, 2026. Our SEO Master SERP lookup returned an account error, so no SERP reading was taken.
