Google Business Profile for HVAC
Google Business Profile for HVAC: the fields that decide the no-heat call.
Your Google Business Profile is about a third of your Map Pack ranking, and the whole of the emergency decision. Set these fields right and most of the map is already yours.
Google Business Profile optimization for HVAC is the work of setting the profile fields that drive ranking and the customer's choice. The order: primary category HVAC contractor. A full heating and cooling service list. A service area that matches the towns you cover. Accurate hours with emergency hours marked. Recent reviews with replies. Profile signals are about 32% of Local Pack ranking in Whitespark's 2026 survey. That is second only to distance. The profile also does the selling on an emergency search. A cold caller picks on the map card before your website loads.

The HVAC profile, field by field
Do these in order. The first three decide whether you rank at all.
- Primary category: HVAC contractor. Add heating contractor and air conditioning contractor as secondaries so the full service list is available.
- Services: list every real line. Furnace repair and install, AC repair and install, heat pump, ductwork, indoor air quality, maintenance plans. One short plain line each.
- Service area: the towns you really cover, closest first. Hide the address if customers do not visit a shop. Do not fill the 20-area limit for its own sake.
- Hours: accurate, including holidays. Mark emergency or 24/7 only if a person answers and can dispatch.
- Reviews: ask at the end of every job. Keep it weekly. Run a bigger push after each seasonal spike, and reply to each one within a day.
- Photos and posts: real finished jobs, dated, spread across your area, and matched to the season. Heating in the cold months, cooling in the hot months.
Where HVAC profiles go wrong
- Category set to "Contractor" when HVAC contractor exists and is a stronger relevance signal.
- Only heating or only cooling in the service list, so the profile misses half the year's searches.
- Emergency hours claimed but not staffed. It is a ranking signal and a promise to a cold caller.
- Content stuck on the wrong season. The newest photo is a summer AC install, in January.
- Name or address that does not match your website and directories. Mismatched details cap the whole profile.
- A second, older listing from a move or a rebrand, splitting your reviews and signals. See duplicate listings.
The profile is only half the picture
A perfect profile still fades with distance, and HVAC companies cover a wide area. To see how far yours carries, run a geo-grid check. And Map Check-Ins turns each finished job into a dated, mapped record on your site and profile.

Questions we get
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Google Business Profile category for an HVAC company?
HVAC contractor as the primary. Add heating contractor and air conditioning contractor as secondaries so the full service list is available. The primary category is one of the strongest ranking signals, so a broad "contractor" choice costs you rank.
Should an HVAC profile show both heating and cooling services?
Yes, in full. Heating and cooling are searched separately and Google reads them as separate topics. Listing only one means the profile misses half the year's searches. Feature the season's services, but keep both listed.
Do photos on the profile help an HVAC company rank?
They help a little and they help the customer choose. Upload real, current photos of finished jobs across your area, matched to the season. The geo-tag on the file does nothing, because Google removes photo metadata on upload.
How many reviews does an HVAC company need?
There is no target number. Recency and a steady flow matter more than the total, per the 2026 survey. Ask at the end of every job, keep it weekly, and run a bigger push after each busy season.
My profile got suspended. What now?
Do not create a new one. Read the steps in the profile suspended guide. Fix the likely cause. Then appeal with proof of the business. It can take time.
