Google Business Profile for landscaping
Google Business Profile for landscaping: the fields that win the recurring account.
Your Google Business Profile is about a third of your Map Pack ranking. It is also where a maintenance shopper decides, in a few seconds, whether you look reliable enough to hand a season to.
Google Business Profile optimization for landscaping is the work of setting the fields that drive ranking and the customer's choice. The order: the primary category that matches most of your revenue, whether that is lawn care service or landscaper. Add the others that fit. A service list that covers both maintenance and design: mowing, edging, cleanups, sod, irrigation, retaining walls, chafer beetle treatment. A service area that matches your routes. Accurate seasonal hours. Reviews that arrive steadily through the season with replies. Profile signals are about 32% of Local Pack ranking, per Whitespark's 2026 survey, second only to distance. The profile also does the selling.

The landscaping profile, field by field
Do these in order. The first three decide whether you rank at all.
- Primary category: the one that matches most of your revenue. Lawn care service for a mowing-led business, landscaper for a design-led one. Add landscape designer, lawn sprinkler system contractor, and snow removal service where they fit.
- Services: list every real line. Weekly and biweekly mowing, edging and bed care, spring and fall cleanups, sod and turf, irrigation install and start-up, retaining walls and patios, chafer beetle treatment. One short plain line each.
- Service area: the municipalities your routes really cover, closest first. Do not fill the 20-area limit for its own sake.
- Hours: your real seasonal hours, updated when the mowing season, the cleanup season, or a lighting season starts and stops. Stale hours read as inactive.
- Reviews: build the request into invoicing or route completion so they arrive steadily across the season, not once in December, and reply to every one.
- Description and photos: name your pesticide applicator certificate and your cosmetic-pesticide bylaw approach as plain fact. Add before-and-after project photos and simple after photos from maintenance routes, dated, on a rotation.
Where landscaping profiles go wrong
- A single primary category that names only mowing or only design, underselling the other half of the business.
- Services left as one line. Mowing, cleanups, sod, irrigation, and hardscape are separate searches. Split them.
- Only the impressive jobs photographed. A cut lawn photographs well too, and maintenance photos read as an active route business.
- Reviews pushed once a year. A December cluster and nothing since reads worse than a steady trickle through the season.
- No certificate or bylaw language. The problem-diagnoser searcher moves on.
- A second, older listing from a move or a rebrand, splitting your reviews and signals. See duplicate listings.
The profile is only half the picture
A perfect profile still fades with distance, and landscaping crews run wide routes. To see how far yours carries, run a geo-grid check across it. And Map Check-Ins turns each finished job into a dated, mapped record on your site and profile.

Questions we get
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Google Business Profile category for a landscaping company?
The one that matches most of your revenue. Lawn care service for a mowing-led business, landscaper for a design-led one. Add landscape designer, lawn sprinkler system contractor, and snow removal service for work you actually do. The primary category is one of the strongest ranking signals.
Should maintenance and design work be on separate profiles?
Usually one profile, set up so both show in your categories and services. Two thin profiles at one address compete with each other and dilute your visibility. We audit the current structure before recommending any split.
How often should a landscaping company ask for reviews?
On a schedule, spread across the season. Build the request into invoicing or route completion. A steady trickle from March to November reads as an active company and holds recency into the next spring. A single December push does neither.
Do maintenance-route photos belong on the profile?
Yes. A freshly cut and edged lawn photographs as well as a finished patio, and maintenance photos signal an active route business. Rotate simple after photos in alongside the before-and-after project shots.
My profile got suspended. What now?
Do not create a new one. Read the steps in the profile suspended guide. Fix the likely cause. Then appeal with proof of the business. It can take time.
